June is Men’s Health Month, and we thought we would take a moment and look at the CDC’s list of top men’s health concerns:

  • Heart Disease

Heart disease (such as angina, heart attacks, abnormal heart rhythms and cardiac arrest) are the top killers in the United States. Some risk factors—such as family history—are out of your control. But others can be eliminated through some simple steps. Getting regular exercise can go far in increasing your heart health. Jayhawk Pharmacy carries exercise and rehab equipment to help with that.

  • Cancer

Just like heart disease, some people are predisposed to have cancer because of their family history. And just like heart disease, one of the top causes of cancer is smoking or living with a smoker. Prostate and colon cancer are the other two top cancers that strike men. Regular examines can help you detect it early on and fight it sooner.

  • Injury

Taking proper safety measures both on the job and at home can help prevent this type of death. At Jayhawk Pharmacy, we can make you less injury-prone in your own home with our line of bathroom safety products.

  • Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease (COPD)

Two common respiratory diseases that become chronic include emphysema and chronic bronchitis. These are often caused by lung tissue that is damaged by toxins inhaled during smoking. Talk to your doctor if you are a smoker and you are having trouble quitting.

  • Stroke

The risk factor for a stroke is the same for both cancer and heart disease. Some things, such as family history, just can’t be helped. Other things, such as lifestyle choices, can be modified to prevent it, including diet, exercise and tobacco intake.

Here at Jayhawk Pharmacy, we want to help you prevent these diseases before they happen. If you have any concerns about these diseases, talk to your doctor about preventing them.
