Many common New Year's resolutions can help you sleep better.

Many common New Year’s resolutions can help you sleep better.

The New Year is just around the corner.  This time of year brings uplifted sentiments of optimism and hope.  All of those sentiments are accompanied with New Year’s resolutions, and all of the tradition that comes with them.

While some will vow to quit smoking and others will vow to be healthier, New Year’s resolutions are part of the fun that comes with the calendar turning over a new leaf. Millions of people will challenge themselves to make the coming year better than the last. Jayhawk Pharmacy strongly believes that these resolutions go hand-in-hand with trying to get better sleep and even potentially relieving some of effects of sleep apnea. Here are a few examples of how these resolutions can help improve your sleep.

  • Losing Weight
Weight loss is one of the driving forces in most New Year’s resolutions. Obesity is also one of the leading risk factors for developing obstructive sleep apnea. When you lose weight, you have more energy, higher self-esteem and feel better. You also sleep better, which contributes to all of the other benefits.  Losing weight can also reduce your risk of developing sleep apnea.
  • Getting More Sleep
Sleeping more is not new to the New Year’s resolution list. Most people actually use this resolution as a way to give themselves more energy to allow them to tackle daily tasks. If you have sleep apnea, a new CPAP machine can help you sleep better and give you more energy.
  • Quitting Smoking
You may not know that quitting smoking can improve your sleep because it improves your lungs’ ability to function, which will make it easier to breathe while you sleep. In-fact, many people who quit smoking have reported sleeping better. On top of better sleep, quitting smoking— or at least cutting back on smoking— has a host of health benefits as well.

Whatever your New Year’s Resolution happens to be, all of us here at Jayhawk Pharmacy wish you the best of luck, health and happiness in 2015.  For anything else feel free to check out our online catalog for all of the products and services we offer.
