Depending on where you live, cold weather could make it difficult to care for your portable oxygen equipment.

Winter time brings the holiday season, but it also brings cold weather for many of us as well.  Cold weather can be annoying at times, and down-right hazardous at others.  Depending on where you are, cold weather could bring some difficulties in caring for your portable oxygen equipment.  Here are a few tips from Jayhawk Pharmacy to help you anticipate and minimize some of the effects.

Protect your equipment from the cold weather

Whether you have a portable oxygen container or some other set-up for your medical oxygen, protecting it from the elements is a wise decision.  Make sure to keep the tubing inside your warmer clothing to help keep it warmed up rather than switching temperatures when you go from indoors to outdoors, which could ultimately cause the tubing crack.  The temperature change could also cause condensation build-up, which could be harmful to your concentrator.
If you cart around a portable tank, make sure to keep it wrapped in a blanket or something to help protect it from similar wear-and-tear.

Prepare accordingly for longer trips in cold weather

We all know that sometimes trips in bad weather can end up taking longer than expected.  Don’t get caught out in the middle of nowhere without extra supplies.  Make sure you pack extra supplies when going on trips in case you experience car problems or some other unforeseen incident that can render you stranded for a duration of time.  Extra supplies include some extra tubing, batteries (if your equipment takes them), and your backup concentrator.
