Everyone knows a good night’s sleep is important. But just how important? According to a new study published in the journal of SLEEP, less sleep could equal faster brain aging for seniors. The Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore found that when seniors got less sleep than they should have, they had faster brain ventricle enlargement and a decline in cognitive performance. These researchers believe that reduced sleep in seniors leads to faster brain aging. Another scary link: Brain ventricle enlargement is known by doctors as a mark of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
