3 Rules for Black Friday Shopping with Limited Mobility

Posted on: November 20th, 2015 by JayHawkPharmacyBlogger

Black Friday is just around the corner, and with that come deals and a day of shopping. Many families make this event a part of their annual holiday celebration, but what if you or a loved one are currently experiencing limited mobility? This can make getting around the shops difficult! Luckily, with a little bit of planning, you can still be one of the first 50 in line for the best deals:

  1. Stick to a schedule

As anyone with limited mobility knows, a regular day of shopping can be tiring, let alone a full day of Black Friday shopping! Plan your rests and your meals ahead of time and stick to the schedule. Arrange your day so that you can arrive at the store when certain items go on sale; if possible, try to arrive when the crowds have thinned out a little.

  1. Free up your hands

It can be hard to juggle a walking aid, a purse and a shopping cart at the same time. Use a small backpack or a fanny pack instead; this will free your hands up considerably, allowing you to navigate the crowds better.

  1. Getting through the crowd

Sometimes, the press of the crowd is so intense that it’s hard for anyone to get around, let alone those who are currently experiencing limited mobility. If you are using a walker or a cane, do something to draw attention to yourself, such as placing orange triangles, brightly colored string, balloons or bells around your mobility device. This will cause those in the crowd to take note of you, so they won’t be so focused on finding their item that they knock you over.
